SAINT ANTHONY CONVENT

Saint Anthony Convent was built next to the Worker’s Circle of Bahia, on land donated by the organization, through the initiative of Friar Hildebrando Kruthaup, spiritual advisor to Saint Dulce of the Poor. The priest presented the idea to the leadership of the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Mother of God, which was immediately approved.

The young engineer Norberto Odebrecht was responsible for its construction. The building's keys were handed over on June 12, 1948, and on June 29, Saint Dulce of the Poor was appointed as the Convent's first mother superior. The inauguration took place on July 25, 1948, with a Mass celebrated in the Saint Anthony Chapel by Archbishop Primate His Excelency Augusto Álvaro da Silva. The Germanic-style building could accommodate up to six nuns.

Saint Dulce of the Poor lived here from 1948, the year the Saint Anthony Convent was built, until March 13, 1992, the day of her death. Also in this work of love and faith were Saint Teresa of Calcutta, when in 1979 she came to Salvador to found a house for her Congregation in the Alagados neighborhood, and Saint John Paul II, who blessed the Good Angel on his sickbed on October 20, 1991, when he was in Salvador on his second official trip to Brazil. This was Saint Dulce of the Poor second encounter with Saint John Paul II.
For 43 years, Saint Dulce of the Poor lived in this place, facing 16 months of illness before passing away on March 13, 1992. In 1993, part of the building was adapted to house the Saint Dulce of the Poor Memorial, preserving an annex for the residence of the Congregation's nuns.

SAINT ANTHONY CHAPEL

The Chapel has been part of the convent since its inauguration in 1948. It was in this space that Saint Dulce prayed to God to give her the strength to care for her poor.

It was here that the funeral mass was celebrated when he passed away on March 13, 1992 and in the year 2000, his relics (mortal remains) were transferred from the Basilica of Our Lady of the Conception of Praia to this space, as part of the Canonization Process, and remained until 2010, when they were taken to the final tomb, in the Sanctuary of Santa Dulce of the Poor.

Currently, the remains of Mrs. Dulcinha, the Saint's closest sister, and Iracy Lordello, one of OSID's oldest volunteers, are laid to rest in this Chapel.
